Contact your bank before your departure abroad, in order to be able to obtain all the information you need about opening new bank accounts abroad.

Customs

You are moving to :

An EU State : There are no customs formalities

A non EU State : you must provide the customs with :
  • 2 copies of a detailed, estimated, dated and signed inventory list of all your goods (furniture, vehicle...)
    Download your inventory list
  • Any document justifying the transfer of residence (passport, contract of employment, certificate of change of residence issued by the town hall)
  • Certain items are subjected to particular formalities in all cases of transfer of residence : weapons and munitions, cultural goods, threatened species of flora and fauna

Insurance

Principle

The maritime insurance covers all the possible risks during maritime forwarding from your residence to destination :
 Loss and theft
 General Average
 Deterioration
 For your personal effects and your vehicles

Steps

 Expressly request insurance for your move
 Draw up a precise and estimated inventory of your property
 Have the condition of your vehicle assessed at the estimated time of your mover’s liability acceptance
 Sign your inventory and keep a copy
 Sign the freight bill by the company dealing with the collection of your belongings
 Note down on this document any problems that might occur
 Keep carefully a copy of the freight bill

Complaint

 If there is a problem with the delivery :

• Note precisely your quantitative and qualitative reserves on the freight bill, which is given to you by the delivery man
• Keep a copy of this freight bill
• Call the average starter mentioned on your insurance document to validate the damage undergone
• Confirm your reserves by registered mail with acknowledgement of receipt to the company, which dealt with your operations, within three days after delivery date
• Have the condition of your vehicle be assessed on recovery

 Documents to be supplied :

• Original insurance certificate
• Original invoices for the goods and any (possible) sundry expenses
• Original transport documents - maritime bill of lading
• Estimated and signed inventory drawn up on depositing the goods
• Original letter of complaint + written acknowledgement of receipt
• Original of the delivery slip-bill of lading
• Condition of the vehicle on depositing and on arrival

International driving licence
In many countries an international driving licence is necessary.
It is valid for only three years and must be shown if requested, with your original driving licence. It is best to ask for information from the Embassy of your destination country before leaving.


Passport-Visa

  • A short stay or immigration visa of is often required to enter in a foreign country for future residents, especially if they wish to work there. You must apply for a visa at the Consulate of the country where you intend to live.
  • To obtain your passport you have to apply to your Prefecture: if you reside in Paris, to the town hall of the district of your residence.
  • For the EU States, a valid national identity card of is accepted

Pets
Basic conditions :

  • must be vaccinated against the rabies
  • must be tattooed
  • must be more than 3 months old

Be aware that certain countries have strict regulations concerning the entry of animals (import permit, quarantine, prohibition…)

Taxation

Before moving abroad you will have to pay all the taxes due to your local tax office.

Notice : your personal tax file will be transferred to the tax office for non- residents. They will then deal with your taxation while you are abroad.

Vaccinations

Certain vaccinations are compulsory in some countries.
The foreign consulates in France indicate those that are necessary in their country.
Medecines can be taken to avoid catching malaria. It’s highly advised to guard against mosquito bites (insect repellent, mosquito nets, long-sleeved clothes…)

Welfare and health insurance

If the French ”Sécurité Sociale” considers you as mandated
You will continue to be covered by the French Cécurité Sociale”.
You and your employer will pay your contributions in France.
Attention: check if your host country has drown up an agreement with the French Sécurité Sociale. If not, you will have to pay contributions to the local welfare authority.
If the French “Sécurité Sociale” considers you as expatriate
You will depend entirely on the welfare system of the country where you
work. Moreover, you can either subscribe to a voluntary insurance (CFE) or a private
system of welfare and health cover.
